“Non si era mai vista tanta neve” is the sonic investigation into the remnants of abandoned ski resorts and winter sports infrastructures across the Piedmont Alps. The project is shaped by the phonographies of the construction materials – concrete, wood, plastic, metal -, activated by weather as well as human and non-human presence.

LISTEN TO AN EXCERPT

The title [Never had so much snow been seen], is drawn from Bruno Munari’s children’s book “Cappuccetto Bianco”, which contains only blank white pages with subtle embossed or textured elements, encouraging readers to use their imagination to “see” what is hidden beneath the surface.

This reference serves a dual purpose: its inherent enthusiasm plays with the naive, obtuse or idealized vision that once justified the construction of these infrastructures; at the same time, just as the child is encouraged by Munari to imagine the invisible forms hidden beneath the snow, the project asks us to envision new, latent possibilities through the unheard sounds of these apparently silent ruins.
